Week Five - Local Business SEO

This week, we were tasked with locating a website for a local business and analyzing it to see what kind of recommendations to make based on SEO. I chose Kelly’s Homemade Ice Cream, a local ice cream shop in Orlando. I worked there in high school and it has been amazing to see what the owners have done to make their business flourish. They started out just serving ice cream out of a truck and now they have multiple locations in the greater Orlando area. They have made amazing modifications to their website to make it visually appealing and user-friendly.

On their website, they have a good amount of content that is very relevant to their customers. They have different tabs such as order online, their story, locations, and menu. By keeping the content relevant, it allows customers to learn more about their business while still ensuring that they are still finding what they are looking for. One recommendation that I would suggest to them is making their social media more accessible from their website. They have the small tabs on the bottom of the page, listing their Facebook and Instagram.

Kelly’s has such a large social media presence, especially on Instagram. They are also working on expanding their following on TikTok to gain more exposure. I happen to know their social media manager, and I know they do spend a decent amount of money on advertisements and social media. I truly believe that their business has grown so much over the past few years now that most of their customers find out about it through word of mouth. Advertisements have not been as effective for them as social media has, so I don’t believe that they will continue to increase their budget.
