Week Six - AI and Data Science

Image
This week, I read chapter 6 of Dr. Kelsey’s book on AI. Chapter 6 is all about learning the ins and outs of artificial intelligence to use it to its maximum value. It discusses how it is important to learn about all of the details in order to begin developing it within your business. The chapter talks about resources you can use to improve your knowledge on artificial intelligence. There are some websites such as DataRobot that have helpful tips about learning artificial intelligence and implementing it.  The chapter moves on to talk about machine learning. Machine learning is an aspect of artificial intelligence that has a major impact on companies today. Data science is another important part of AI that is required to know if you want to be successful using artificial intelligence. By learning the data, you can ensure that the information being used by your machines and AI is accurate and being computed correctly. There are many apps and resources out there that can help people learn

Week Six - Personalized SEO

Image
This week, we focused on our personal SEO. I have always been told by family and teachers to make sure that I would not post anything on social media that I wouldn’t want a future employer to see. It’s important to make sure that whatever is posted online is appropriate and doesn’t reflect poorly on you. I usually google my name every few weeks just to see what pops up to make sure that everything looks good and is an accurate reflection of myself. After reading the survey on how companies refused to hire a candidate over something on their social media is unnerving and makes me want to be sure that everything I am posting is okay. When I google myself, the first thing that comes up is my LinkedIn. Next is the Benedictine Women’s Golf roster since I am on the team. Followed by that, is my Instagram and Facebook. After reading that article I chose to make my Instagram account private so that only select people can view it. I also chose to delete a few pictures that I thought were not th

Week Five - Artificial Intelligence

Image
This week, I read through chapter 5 of the Surfing the Tsunami book written by Dr. Kelsey. This chapter was all about adopting artificial intelligence. In the book, Dr. Kelsey mentions how it is important to trust the process in learning about AI. He does a great job of emphasizing that change isn’t always a bad thing, it is just something that we need to get used to and adapt to. Accepting artificial intelligence is important for businesses to continue being successful in the future. Whether they like it or not, advancements in technology are going to continue to happen, and it is important to the survival of their business in the future.  In the book, it is mentioned that a lot of aspects of artificial intelligence are prevalent in today’s society. Dr. Kelsey provides the example of Amazon, which I think is an example of how it can be used for good. Although there is the concern of job replacement, I think that the business that Amazon has built has done more help than hurt. They hav

Week Five - Local Business SEO

Image
This week, we were tasked with locating a website for a local business and analyzing it to see what kind of recommendations to make based on SEO. I chose Kelly’s Homemade Ice Cream, a local ice cream shop in Orlando. I worked there in high school and it has been amazing to see what the owners have done to make their business flourish. They started out just serving ice cream out of a truck and now they have multiple locations in the greater Orlando area. They have made amazing modifications to their website to make it visually appealing and user-friendly.  On their website, they have a good amount of content that is very relevant to their customers. They have different tabs such as order online, their story, locations, and menu. By keeping the content relevant, it allows customers to learn more about their business while still ensuring that they are still finding what they are looking for. One recommendation that I would suggest to them is making their social media more accessible from

Week Four - SEO vs. PPC

Image
In another article posted by Dr. Kelsey, I learned about the importance of differentiating between advertisements and search engine optimization. Advertisements seem to be short-term, and work to grow a businesses number of clicks for the time being. Search engine optimization can lead a business to have more clicks overtime if their website is optimized enough to be ranked on search engines. Speaking from personal experience, sometimes I hesitate to click on the websites that are labeled ‘ad’ on Google, just because I know that company paid for their website to be there. With search engine optimization, I feel that it is more beneficial for companies who want to see lasting results.  From reading the short concept, I realized that advertisements create faster results, which could lead to more money. However, SEO provides a more gradual change that can have better results over time. The profit made from SEO seems like it would be more worth it in the long run. If your business is looki

Week Four - SEO Audit

Image
This week, I reviewed the graphic that Dr. Kelsey posted on performing site audits. It was a very interesting and valuable infographic that changed my perspective to view websites through the eyes of SEO. There are things on the list, such as checking social media profiles, and looking for duplication of content that I would not have thought about before. After reviewing this graphic, I went to a few of my frequent sites to try and do a SEO audit. Most of them seemed like they checked all the boxes, and it was an interesting experience to see it through different eyes. I did some further research on how to do an SEO audit, and found lots of useful resources.  There are certain websites where you can pay to have someone audit your website. I also read a blog post about certain tips that provided valuable information on how to perform an audit successfully. In the blog post, one item that it mentioned was about how it is important to make sure that there is an HTML code that provides the

Week Three - Efficient Blog Posting

Image
Writing an effective blog post that resonates with your readers is extremely important. Companies have a certain demographic that they are trying to reach, and they need to ensure that their content is engaging enough for that demographic. In terms of search engine optimization, a blog post should meet the requirements and allow them to still be in high ranks in the search engine. A good idea for companies to see what is working for them, is to analyze old blog posts to see what kind of posts and content were most successful. By doing this, businesses can ensure that they are using the necessary tools to make the most effective post. To produce a good blog post, you need to have a good format first. From personal experience, blog posts that are too lengthy aren't desirable to read. Having an eye-catching headline also allows readers to be drawn in. Making sure that the blog post is scroll-friendly and accessible across all devices is another important factor. If a blog is designed

Week 3 - Search Console

Image
This week, I did some reading and research about Search Console and how it helps make your website more efficient. Search Console is a free service that is provided by Google for website owners. It is used to monitor and maintain your website and allows you to see what kind of improvements you can be making. Some of the functions that it performs are viewing the traffic data for your website, see if google has any issues on your website, and troubleshooting for certain issues. This can be very efficient for business owners who are trying to grow the number of people their website reaches.  Search Console allows them to monitor numbers to see what kinds of traffic they are getting. If a website isn’t getting enough attention from traffic, the owner can make some adjustments to see what they can do to increase engagement. SEO Specialists were recommended on the site to use Search Console to optimize rank. This can be helpful if a business is trying to move their rank in searches up farth
